Our client is a dynamic and established Investment Management company that has a new requirement for a Financial Manager to play a pro-active role in supporting efficient and structured financial management across all companies within the group and covering operations and projects. The FM shall be responsible for all finance-related functions, encompassing financial record keeping, financial and management reporting, regulatory reporting, debtors and creditors management, budgeting, cash-flow management, payroll management, and all ad hoc financial management
functions. With your expertise, experience, and track-record, you shall be responsible for performing the
financial managements functions in alignment with IFRS and relevant regulatory requirements, to be efficient,
productive, and effective, and to embody the values and culture of our client-centric firm.
Our ideal candidate has extensive experience in performing financial accounting and financial management
roles, and has a track record of working closely with senior executives to manage the financial management
functions within an operational environment in an efficient and structured manner. We wish to appoint a FM
with strong practical financial management skills, a pro-active and dynamic approach to managing the multitasking
nature of the role, an ability to simplify complex financial management functions, a structured approach
to managing change and incrementally enhancing the finance functions they undertake, and the ability to
approach all aspects of the FM role from a highly structured, detail-oriented, and deeply considered point of
view.
Job Objectives
• Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date financial accounting records for all business entities.
• Maintain organised historical records (incl. source documents) for all financial transactions and activities
undertaken within the various entities.
• Drive the maintenance of controls and checks to ensure the accuracy of all financial accounting records.
• Lead the compilation of reporting to meet requirements of internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure all internal and external deadlines (incl. regulatory reporting) are met.
• Provide insightful, meaningful, and accurate commentary to accompany financial reports.
• Drive the planning for, and maintenance of, budgets and forecasts.
• Provide insightful support, analysis and advice for commercial decision making and Group projects.
• Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements (incl. IFRS, Companies Act, FAIS, TCF,
FICA, POPI), and ensure compliance where necessary.
• Manage cashflow requirements (within each entity and across the Group) and ensure optimal utilisation of
excess cash.
• Continually enhance all finance-related functions and drive efficient financial management processes.
• Manage the monthly payroll and all associated deductions payments.
• Manage accurate and timely reporting and payment to SARS.
• Ensure efficient management of debtors and creditors.
• Lead the performance of all company secretarial functions in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Embody the values and culture of our client-centric firm in all interactions with internal and external
stakeholders.
Responsibilities
• Produce accurate and timeous financial reports containing actuals, budget, forecasts and variances, to the
CEO and senior management, to support management decision-making and to monitor the alignment of
financial performance with annual business plans.
• Support the CEO and senior management team through providing accurate and meaningful analysis,
explanations and recommendations to accompany financial reports.
• Provide financial support, analysis and advice to assist with commercial decision making, and assist with all
financial management related matters on internal or Group projects.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting by maintaining and reviewing reconciliations, and resolving
unreconciled items.
• Compile financial statements that comply with IFRS, relevant regulatory frameworks, and industry best
practice.
• Consolidate financial accounts to meet financial reporting requirements.
• Review and submit statutory returns timeously in compliance with relevant legislation.
• Meet business process, reporting, submission and other deadlines and targets through prioritising
effectively, following a structured workflow, and ongoing planning and communication.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy in all analysis and reporting, by planning outputs and undertaking
accuracy checks before circulation.
• Contribute to institutional knowledge and intellectual capital development, by developing and maintaining
policies on relevant areas across the financial management functions.
• Manage risks identified within areas of the financial management functions, by adhering to internal and
external guidelines, policies, procedures, business rules, compliance and governance requirements.
• Ensure that the financial management functions comply with all relevant business policies and procedures,
and ensure financial management functions meet regulatory requirements (incl. FAIS, TCF, FICA, POPI.)
• Drive exploration and sharing of knowledge and industry trends with the team and stakeholders during
formal and informal interactions.
• Drive the improved management of data, by monitoring and improving the quality of data used for financial
reporting, including the introduction of refinements to month-end processes that enhance data quality,
controls, timing and delivery.
• Lead the accurate and timeous compilation of annual budgets, and the accurate and timeous compilation
of updated forecasts throughout the financial reporting periods.
• Manage the compilation of Annual Financial Statements for all entities and Group consolidated Annual
Financial Statements.
• Effectively manage the relationship with external auditors, and manage the annual audit process through
the maintenance of efficient processes throughout the year and the coordination of audit activities during
the annual audit.
• Ensure accurate information is submitted to SARS (incl. VAT, PAYE, UIF, companies tax, dividend withholding
taxes, EMP501), FSCA, SARB, CIPC, and other regulatory bodies.
• Lead the maintenance and undertaking of all reconciliations to ensure accurate information is submitted to
all regulatory bodies, and ensure any identified errors are immediately reported to the relevant regulatory
body and prescribed remedial actions are adhered to (incl. payment of fines/penalties.)
• Undertake accurate and timeous calculation and submission of capital adequacy requirements to the FSCA,
and monitor compliance with capital adequacy requirements at all times.
• Drive the optimised management and utilisation of cash within each entity and across the Group through
the introduction and ongoing maintenance of cashflow management processes, including the monitoring
of and planning for projected cashflows, the allocation of cash to relevant bank accounts to maximise
interest income, inter-group transfers to meet cashflow requirements, and early-notification to the CEO
and senior management of any projected cashflow shortfalls.
• Manage the full payroll function, including salary and bonus payments, and medical and RA deductions.
• Manage the debtors (and collections) and creditors (and payments) function, including invoicing and
collections, and loading of approved payments.
• Manage the company secretarial functions, including recording of shareholders and directors resolutions,
dividend distributions, and preparation for and recording of shareholder and directors meetings.
• Ensure the financial aspects of contracts are complied with, and verify that all financial commitments listed
in relevant contracts are met based on the contracted terms.
• Constantly assess financial management functions, identify areas for enhancement (incl. people, processes,
and systems), and drive implementation of enhancements.
• Drive business objectives within specific timeframes, by planning and coordinating individual and/or
collaborative activities to meet targeted outcomes.
Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in financial accounting/relevant subjects
• Professional qualification preferable (CA (SA); SAIPA; CIMA)
• 5-years + experience post completion of articles.
• 2-years + experience managing a small financial management team.
• Experience (during articles and/or post-articles) working within firms operating in the financial services
industry.
• Knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, the Tax Act, Companies Act and risk management principles.
• Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and personal integrity, with proven track-record of leading
the financial management function within a small/medium-sized firm.
• Ability to work independently, with a high degree of initiative, discretion and ‘tact.’
• Demonstrated ability to build trusted, collaborative and effective working relationships.
• High degree of prudent commercial judgment focused on controlling expenditure within budget.
• Experience in, and commitment to, driving change and innovation to enhance individual processes across
the financial management functions.
